Starting up a new career can be a stressful ordeal, but beginning a work at home job can be an even greater challenge. There is a lot of employment out there with the possibility to work in your own home office, but there are endless streams of scams as well. It is important to be able to differentiate a legitimate business opportunity and a scam.

The Get-Rich Quick Scam

Buyer beware! Follow the old saying "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is." Trust your instincts on this. So many get-rich-quick scams are out there. They promise that with only a few hours here and there, you will become rich. This is not the case. To succeed with a business, you do have to work hard. Don’t give up however, perseverance is the key to success.

The Urgent Sales Tactics

Never get persuaded to buy a product or service quickly by the use of someone else’s urgency sales tactics. This is a ploy to get you to buy now before you change your mind. Obviously, if they are afraid that if you think it through you will not want to buy the item or service, then surely this is not a great deal after all.

Unethical and Illegal

Not only are many of these scams unethical, but several are illegal. Very few people make money and a lot of people lose all of their investments. Getting rich quick is never the way to succeed online.

Driving Traffic to Your Website

Stay away from the promises to drive traffic to your website scams. You will pay $50 or more just to have a sudden rush of unworthy traffic that doesn’t even correspond to your website. Yes, more traffic can mean more sales, but it is the quality of the traffic that really counts. The best way to get legitimate good quality traffic is to sell something of value or to offer good information.

Search Engine Submission

The old search engine submission sales tactic scam is one of the oldest one out there. A promise is made to submit your website to the top hundreds or thousands of search engines so that your website will have top rankings.

Submitting to major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Open Directory is really all that is necessary. No matter how many search engines you submit your website to, they will never find you if you don’t have enough back links. By having other genuine websites linking to you that corresponds with your products that you sell or services, that is the best way for search engines to find you.

Now you are better prepared to begin your work at home job, while avoiding scams.
