Love handles are actually deposits of fat, for which a lot of people do not love, but rather hate. For many individuals, these muffin tops can lead to both low self-esteem and a lack of confidence.
Unfortunately, there’s no magic pill that can get rid of them instantly. There are ways, however, to improve your shape and reduce them.
How to Lose Love Handles
Lose Love Handles with Exercise
For many people, love handles can be bothersome. One way to minimize them is by performing exercises to strengthen your lower back and abdominal muscles. If you lie on the floor on your belly pretending to swim, this will help to strengthen these muscles and will decrease those unsightly bulges.
Drink Lots of Water
It’s a proven fact, that if you drink a lot of water, you will have less water retention. "How much water should I drink," you may wonder. Time and time again, medical research indicates that six to eight glasses per day is the recommended amount. Besides helping with water retention, the water also helps to convert the stored fat into energy. And for an added bonus, it will decrease your appetite!
Reduce Your Salt Intake
By cutting back on your sodium intake often found in prepared foods, it will decrease your water retention. Of course, consuming less salt will lower your likelihood of having high blood pressure and heart disease. A great trick to avoid high amounts of salt, is to use little to none when you cook, and try to avoid adding the salt to your foods. Substitute the salt for pepper or other spices instead.
Drink less Alcohol and Soft Drinks
Get rid of love handles by drinking less alcohol and soft drinks. These beverage drinks are simply empty calories. These extra calories are going to sit right in your belly and most likely will contribute to more apparent love handles.
Liposuction
Liposuction (lipo) is a way to get rid of the love handles, but it isn’t without its share of risks. There is also the cost of liposuction to consider. Perhaps a less invasive method may be the answer, but for those who have tried eating healthy and specific exercise programs to target these areas with no success, it may be a possibility.
Be sure to consult with your health care provider before contemplating any exercise program, new diet, or any type of surgery or medical procedure.
